Technical characteristics of containers

Container (derivates from English word “to contain”) is a box with determined dimensions adapted to cargo transportation by different means of transport. Container may be a removable part (body) of a vehicle (lorry, ship, plane, railway wagon) which can be mechanically charged, discharged and loaded from one transport onto another. Capacity and dimensions of a container correspond with overall dimensions and carrying capacity of the transport in use.

The main requirement to containers is providing the highest possible safety of the cargo as well as full use of carrying capacity of the transport in use.

Cargo container for the internal and international transportations is a unit of transport equipment adapted for multiple uses. All containers are classified according to their gross weight, connection size, overall dimensions and availability of their connection to a special truck or railroad rolling-stock.

The main types of containers:
  • ICC and IAA - height 2591 mm (8,5 feet)
  • IC and IA – height 2438 mm (8,0 feet).
